The Nightly Rant
You can expect this to continue until the election. I promise that as soon as it's all over I'll write something innocuous about my dog pooping on the rug or something. But for now:- Can we stop it with the pig-lipstick bullshit?
I said it before, I'll say it again ... I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm a conservative and there ain't a conservative running in '08.
But I would like to see the liberal Senator John McCain win the election, rather than the far left Senator Tila Tequila (or whatever his name is). Recent polls have given me the impression that there actually is a ghost of a chance ...
the REASON that McCain has done well in the polls is because SARAH PALIN THREW A LITTLE GENUINE CONSERVATISM INTO THE MIX. Don't lose track of that. Sarah Palin was like a breath of fresh air and she got people paying attention again. USE THAT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, McCAIN!
If you McCain supporters keep ranting and raving because Senator Tila said "lipstick on a pig" you're gonna eff it all up. You're playing the Democrats game. Get back to playing the GOP's game.
McCain can (maybe, possibly) win if he sticks to the issues. The GOP position is superior to the Democratic position on the issues that rule the day. And people know that.
In spite of his liberalism on Gitmo, global warming, campaign finance, torturing friggin' TERRORISTS that we've caught RED HANDED, etc ... McCain actually HAS put forth fairly conservative positions on the major issues.
You remember those issues, right?
01 ... Drill here, drill now. That's what voters want. McCain has warmed up on that issue, Obama continues to lose support because of his rigid far-left position.
02 ... Use the free market to improve health insurance. That's McCain's plan and it kicks the snot out of his opponent's weak-ass plan.
03 ... The surge in Iraq worked and McCain knew it would all along. McCain is stronger than ANYONE on this issue. Senator Tila still won't even admit that he blew the call.
04 ... And then there's abortion, an issue that McCain owns over his opponent.
Hammer those issues, McCain campaign. Hammer 'em, hammer 'em, hammer 'em. Leave the reality TV type he-said-she-said crap to the Democrats. Or you are going to lose.
McCain will not win if he runs on style. He has to run on substance. Otherwise, the McCain campaign is wasting all of our time.
So don't say I didn't tell you.
Charlie Gibson to Sarah Palin: "Get your fat ass in the kitchen and make me a pie."
Well, no, not really ... but he might as well have gone for it. During the course of his interview with Palin on ABC Gibson hardly held back:- He accused her of "hubris." Classic. Has anyone in the media dared broach the topic of "hubris" in an interview with Chicago law professor, Senator Tila Hussein Tequila? Nope. But let some woman from Alaska suggest that she might have some ideas worth considering and, POW! It's all about the hubris.
Not for nothing ... but can ANYONE, Republican, Democrat, man, woman, black, white or otherwise, think themselves good PotUS material without being guilty of a bit of hubris?
Not that Gibson and his cohorts in the MSM have time for banalities like common sense. - Gibson distorted and misrepresented Palin's words in prayer about the troops being sent to war in Iraq. Gibson quoted Palin as having said "Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God." What she actually said was that we should Pray that our leaders are sending US soldiers on a task that is from God. Get rid of that first bit and you totally change the context, huh?
Palin gently protest this mangling of context, but she didn't push it too far. Maybe because at that point she was concerned that Gibson might smack her. - My favorite bit from the interview was when he hit her with "Do you support the Bush doctrine?" Man, I just LOVE those damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't questions:
Palin seemed to know what Gibson was trying to get her to step into ... and she kinda hemmed and hawed and didn't really do well with this question other than the standard GOP responses.
I wish she had said "If I say yes you'll edit this interview to create the appearance that I support a narrow, ugly interpretation of the 'Bush doctrine.' If I say no you'll play it up as a difference between myself and Senator McCain. So just to be clear, here is where our campaign stands on terrorism here and abroad..."
Overall I'd give her a B minus. Like most politicians she's better at giving speeches than interviews.
Except, of course, for Senator Tila Tequila, the Chosen One. Every word that ever drips from his lips is good and pure and holy and sacred.
That's why his admirers in the mainstream media listen intently to his pronunciations ... and why they experience simultaneous climax every time he uses the word "change."- He accused her of "hubris." Classic. Has anyone in the media dared broach the topic of "hubris" in an interview with Chicago law professor, Senator Tila Hussein Tequila? Nope. But let some woman from Alaska suggest that she might have some ideas worth considering and, POW! It's all about the hubris.
- Congressman Steve Cohen: "Vote for Barack. He's just like Jesus!"
What cabinet position is this nobody bucking for?

Good post. I agree that McCain has to hit hard on substance.
Notice that the very day after meeting with Bubba, Nobama changed tactics and the ad went after McCain & not Palin?
RE: Gibson. I didn't watch the interview. The few clips I did watch made me want to reach into the TV screen & throttle his condescending neck!

Most of the Democrats I know thought she was rude in that interview. What a laugh. How about when Gibson said he just got lost in that "flurry of words". I'd pay money to see anyone on any of the main networks say that to Barrack " Master of Flurry of Words" Obama.
