Propagandists, Bullies, Liars
I've been dubious about the whole "Man-Made Global Warming" claim all along since the scare seems to originate entirely with political polemics and their pet "scientists." I've been reluctant to pronounce the whole business bunk, though, because I didn't think myself well enough informed.
Now I am well enough informed.
The idea that mankind is creating climate change is pure, simple, abject garbage. Al Gore is a liar and a hypocrite, and he's smart enough to know it. Global warming proponents are propagandists of the first order, and those who stand ready to attack anyone who says so are a bunch of bullies and bigots.
Watch this amazing documentary (if you have an hour and a quarter to spare) from UK Channel 4.
Beyond that, read this essay from America's greatest living thinker, Thomas Sowell.
It seems fairly clear to me that those who subscribe to the idea that humans are creating global warming are doing so for political and/or social reasons, not scientific ones. I've always suspected that that was the case, but until now I'd been unwilling to simply say so. Until now, I always thought I was just nigh well enough informed. This documentary from UK Channel 4, I think, gives me enough information to back up my beliefs. "Man-Made Global Warming" is a religion, a social cause, maybe simply a fad … but it ain't science.

I've had many, many occasions where you just have to think to yourself, "Where did they come up with this crap, and why are do they even think this?" Just follow the dollar…*
Getting people to freak out about anthropogenic global warming means more money in the pocket of environmentalists and their liberal politician friends. Additionally, it makes us conservatives (and therefore Republicans) look bad; how dare we be so mean as to ignore the needs of our planet! *rolleyes* And that means more votes for the Democrats.
Speaking of this, does anyone else want to pull their hair out whenever they see that "Stop Global Warming" commercial with the children going "tick, tick, tick…"? 'Cause I sure do. :P
*It's the same for illegal immigration, too. Why do the Dems want more criminals south of the border in our country? Because it means more votes for them.

Darrell, I read the articles you cited, although I didn't have 90 minutes for a documentary. I think it's possible that Gore is a sincere person pushing a possibly shaky theory. For every anti-man-made theory I hear about, there's an opposing one, and like you, I don't know who's got it right. But I do think that "propagandist, bullies liars" is a pretty strong epithet for people who are concerned in a relatively non-threatening way about a potentially major issue. And yes, I did read your disclaimer :)
After viewing the data from the Vostok ice core in antarctica, one can not disagree that there is a correlation between CO2 and global temps. However, given that it has been demonstrated that mars, venus, pluto, two moons of jupiter and one moon of saturn is also getting warmer, one has to wonder about said correlation.
It's like this:
A scientist has a frog. She says "Jump frog!" The frog jumps five feet. She cuts off the frogs' legs and then says "Jump frog!". The frog doesn't jump. Her conclusion: Cutting off frog's legs makes frog deaf. That is kind of similar to the science of man made global warming.
Mind you, I haven't watched the documentary yet, but I shall. I wonder if they bring up the fact that there was a cooling period in the middle of the 20th century, that it has been even warmer than it is now, that the earth's rotation wobble also plays a large part in temp changes, or the fact that according to the correlation between global temps and CO2 as demonstrated by the Volstok ice core samples, it should be a good bit warmer than it is now. I also have to question whether the measurements are accurate, as if they are taking them in urban areas, it wouldn't be accurate as it is always warmer in the cities. I also heard a scientist say that satelite readings in the atmosphere have not indicated warming at all, or that while arctic ice is shrinking a bit, antarctic ice is growing. I've been ridiculed when bringing these things up on other sites, but 1 + 1 still equals 2 whether you have a PhD or not.
I also can't stand the argument of "if there is even a chance, shouldn't we take all of the measures we can just to be safe?" Um... no. We need to be sure first. And the more the left screams that there is a complete consensus, the more scientists come forward disputing it. The earth's population is far beyond the point where we could "go back" to everyone living green. BILLIONS would starve, and I guarentee that those who starved wouldn't be people like Al Gore.
Off-pissing!!!

I don't blame you for reacting that way, those are strong words. I encourage you to watch the documentary if you have time. When people who support global warming theories are equating those who disagree with Holocaust deniers, I'm inclined to see it as propaganda and bullying. As far as them being liars, please do watch the documentary for the evidence I'd sight to back up my claim. Of course I'm sure you know by now that your opinion is respected and valued, even when we disagree, as we so often do on political issues ;) ... and either way I appreciate your perspective and input.
Unseen: I wonder if they bring up the fact that there was a cooling period in the middle of the 20th century, that it has been even warmer than it is now...
They go into all that. Check out the docu if you get time.

I couldn't believe "them" from the onset about this global warming thing.
How could you, when in the 70's they were predicting an ice age.
geez...
And if they can't tell me what the weather is going to be three weeks from today...
Why should I believe their predictions about global warming?
I could go on and on, but I won't.
I haven't gotten to see the documentary... yet.
But I will.
Thanks for posting it.
BTW...

I have to wonder when they are going to just announce "That's it, we are all currently dead from climate change!"
Who cares about global warming. Jesus will save us! Jesus is more powerful than Al Gore or any theory in science. Rely on and Jesus and you won't have anything to worry about! :)
