Sick Son, Slow Sunday, Sad Stories and YouTube
Killin' Time
We weren't able to go to church this morning because my son is sick. Instead, I spent the morning combing the stats page for more bandwith thieves. I found a few and updated the list. Thanks to MCF, I also found a story about a recent Dave Chapelle show that really got my attention. There are a few vulgar terms in that story, so beware if you're ultra-sensitive.
Feel Good Television
I've been hearing a lot about Intervention, a series on A&E. We're watching it now (10:00 PM Eastern). This is the first time we've seen it, the episode is about Tammi and Daniel. I'll tell ya what, if you want to feel good about yourself, if you want to realize how blessed you are and how good God has been to you (most of us, anyway), watch this show. These poor, poor people. It is horrific what drugs and alcohol can do to people. This show is extremely hard to watch and isn't for everyone. Watch it anyway. Watch this show, pray for the people on it, and get on your knees and thank God for your life. (I'm talking to myself with that last part.)You Tubery
Of course, youtube.com was simply created for lazy Sundays:
- There is so much evil in the world.... and Japan is the one place still finding new, creative ways to express it:
- Hear this once and I DEFY you to not go around singing it all day:
- I've seen this on America's Funniest Home Videos ten times or so and it just never gets old. You think you got issues? You ain't got issues. THIS DOG has some SERIOUS ISSUES.
- I'm not usually the kind to post videos of things as sappy as little kids that can sing well, but..... HOLY CRAP.

I hope your son gets to feeling better.
I think that the unwelcome users will be surprised.
I still don't fully understand all the in's and out's of the internet, etc.
I really don't want to make this kind of mistake.
Let me see if I understand this correctly:
If I post a link ~to~ your site that's ok.
But if I place an image on my site that is being generated by you, that's not ok?
Since I am on Blogger, I don't think that is happening with my site? Plus, it really doesn't affect me because I'm not paying for the bandwidth right?
Thanks for your help.

Aw, here's hoping the kid feels better soon.. kids shouldn't get sick during the summer! They should only get sick when they can miss school :-)
TJ, you do NOT want to link an image that's on Darrell's server. He carries a BIG BAT. But I know he'll appreciate your asking how to avoid it.
Just because he hasn't been on yet to answer you, allow me (I don't think he'd mind, but I could be wrong).. you CAN save an image he has on his blog (or Wendy's or Filmgeeks) by right clicking and choosing "save image as" (assuming you're using a PC) and then when it asks you where to save it, just choose desktop if you're going to turn around and upload it again to a different server. That's what I do anyway. That's "stealing a pic" but it's NOT "hotlinking". There's a big difference between the two, and although I don't THINK Darrell minds if you "steal a pic", he definitely will whip out the bat if you "hotlink" it.
To hotlink it, which you DON'T want to do but I'm telling you how so you'll know what's bad, right click and choose "properties". When properties comes up you'll see the address of the pic as a url. Highlight it and copy it to your clipboard. You can now insert it into whatever you're using, but again.. don't.
Just right click and save a pic to your desktop and then upload it to blogger. That's the safe way to go about it, and usually to give credit for it is considerate.
I hope that's not all too confusing.
Oh, a final note on what to steal and what NOT to steal.. if Darrell just has some random silly image that you know he found on the net in the first place, then go ahead and grab it. Everyone does - just don't hotlink it. If it's a pic of his wife and/or kids that you know is a personal pic, then you should probably ask permission and tell why you want it.

t.j., Rhodester summed it all up perfectly. That's exactly it. The way it works is, if you steal the code (by clicking the properties and posting the link to the picture instead of saving your own copy of the picture on your own server space), then every time your page loads, it pulls bandwidth off of my server space... which means basically that I am paying to host YOUR pictures. That's what I have a problem with. Otherwise, like Rhodester said, if you can tell that an image is just something that I found somewhere and posted, then consider it yours as much as mine.
And Thanks, Rhodester, for the details!

Did this post grow, or did I miss the videos before? Anyway, hope your son feels better and I have to echo that "Holy Crap" on the little girl that must have consumed a diva. That was insane. What's the deal with the British guy and his snarky remarks though? Does every one of these shows have to have one in their contract? At least Brandy and the Hoff showed her love. Amazing stuff.
Also, I guess boy bands have finally reached whatever country that was? I hate getting lyrics stuck in my brain too...
