Monday Links
Just a few things I stumbled across on the 'net and the blogosphere this morning:
- I always look forward to MCF's Phantasmic Links on Mondays. It's almost a guarantee that I'll find something there that I enjoy. Like this little video, which made me laugh out loud. It's true. It's soooooo true.
This clip is rated PG-13. Don't watch it if you'd be offended by the site of a stranger groping Amy Poehler. - Gibb Droll is an amazingly talented guitarist and I've had opportunity to see him play a number of times. The guy is gifted. He blows my mind. Check out his site, and read Jambander's loving tribute to the whole Gibb Droll experience.
We've all seen those Claw vending machines. the kind where you drop in a couple of quarters and try your hand at moving the joysticks… you move the claw slightly to the left, slightly to the back, slightly to the front… and then you push the button to drop the claw and maybe get yourself a stuffed animal… or maybe a watch… or maybe a three year old boy. Read this news story, it's real and it's kinda freakly.- Of course, people are still talking about the announcement of the location of WMDs in Iraq. A Regular Guy is one of those people, and his comments solicited a typical bone-headed remark from an anonymous liberal. Go read the post and then read the liberal's remark. With elections coming, we need to have constant reminders that the liberals don't really have any ideas, still haven't woken up to the realities of our post 9/11 world, and bring absolutely NOTHING to the table.
Wendy and I had a childless weekend, all of our kids are with their other parents. So last night we took in a double feature at Hull's Drive In, one of the few remaining Drive-In movie theaters in the country… and, as far as I know, the only non-profit, community operated drive-in in the whole dang world. We saw United 93 and The Da Vinci Code, both of which I'll review at film geeks as time allows.- Apparently, My Old Blogspot address has already been grabbed up by a new blogger. I wish him (or her) the best.
- I followed a link that Jerry posted and found out that, according to the commercial value of a human life, I'm worth $1,092,502. Jerry himself is worth $1,961,170. My Jerry and I are the same age, but my resale value is probably lower because I have had a great deal of spinal surgery. Besides, I'm not for sale. I am, however, available for rent, eight hours at a time, to a nearby paper company.
- I found a new blog I like. Check it out.

The kid in the claw vending machine... for some reason, I could picture myself doing that when I was younger.
Gotta love the "Asshats" comment on Paul's blog. When leftists have nothing left to say, call names.

Oooh, a drive-in...I have a scary drive-in story. Let's just say that when my date and I woke up in Newark, NJ (the first and last time I ever visited that fine city), many many years ago, the cady, the only car there btw, was covered with thugs sitting on the hood, roof and trunk. I think we may have run a couple over in our haste to get out of there. I trust you had a better experience ;)
Thanks for the kind words and the hat tip. Just when I think no one reads those posts, it's good to come across your reference to one. :) And it is true.
Your old address almost made my links this weekend too. Out of habit I went there instead of the new one. Then I thought maybe you used to be thesouthernconservative--there used to be one with the definite article--and I'm never sure which of the two was you. That one is gone too. I think it had a lighthouse. But no Darrell.

oh-my-god.. the other night Dorian and I went to a Dennys that had one of those claw machines in the front entrance area. During the ENTIRE time we were having our meal, there was a drunken guy pumping it full of quarters in a vain attempt to retrieve a teddy bear. He'd get it up about six inches and when it dropped he'd bang on the machine and let out a string of expletives. Then he'd go to the register and get about ten more dollars in quarters.
He must have been there for an hour, and he never did get the teddy bear, which I think must have served as kind of an metaphor for his life. It was hilarious.
BTW, I LOVE Amy Poehler but had somehow missed that clip from SNL. Thanks for sharing. Now I want to grab one of her girl bumps.

..of course, I mean "served as kind of A metaphor for his life", not AN metaphor. I had originally said "AN analogy", but changed analogy to metaphor because I thought it more appropriate, but neglected to change AN to A.
Anyway, that's a explanation for you until I come up with an better one.
