Three Quick'uns
- Scott Lyons, a blogger in North Carolina, was kind enough to leave a comment here the other day. I checked out his blog, Swept Over, and liked what I read. Especially, this piece about prayer, lies, and children. It's really very good, and it's very short. I admire and envy writers who can pack this much wallop into just a few paragraphs. Take a minute and go read it.
- Another commenter told me about a nice care-package she sent back to the ACLU in one of their postage pre-paid envelopes. Wouldn't you like to see the look on some ACLU mail handler's face when he or she opens that pre-paid envelope and finds this stuff?
- Remember when rock n' roll was just about rock n' roll? When a concert was about nothing more than a concert? Why does every concert these days have to be given in order to stop something, or to start something, or to raise awareness of something?
...the UK's biggest anti-racism festival at London's Finsbury Park.... (was) organised by the Mayor Of London, Ken Livingstone, in partnership with the National Assembly Against Racism and TUC South East Region (SERTUC), he said: "Racism is a dead end and music is one of the most powerful ways of demonstrating that fact.
"The 'Rise: London United' will bring together people from every background to celebrate the diversity of the capital. This incredibly strong and broad line-up of artists will make a great free day out for all with a strong message that our city loves its diversity."
Look, don't get me wrong. Of course racism is a terrible thing and of course we'd all be better off without it. I just think that ending racism has to begin and end on an individual basis. You know how we conservatives are about the whole personal accountability concept.
I liked rock n' roll much better when it was about nothing more than it's own big, dumb, loud self. The modern breed of rock stars, with their political aspirations and progressive world view, really scare me. I'm afraid they've dropped the ball. Who among them is capable of picking up the mantle of rockers past? Of carrying on the proud, irresponsible tradition of rockers like Kiss, Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC?
Stop taking yourself so darned seriously, rock n' roll! It's not your JOB to save the world! It's not your job to inspire people to become politically focused! It's your job to come up with music that inspires people to shake their behinds! That inspires people to turn the volume up to eleven! That inspires people to get really bad haircuts! That inspires 15 year old boys to set empty milk jugs on fire! Rock n' roll was made to make everything a little bit worse, not better! Now get back to work, rock stars of the world. I hereby nominate the amazing new band Wolfmother to be your new leader."I don't believe that rock 'n' roll
Can really change the world
As it spins in revolution
It spirals and turns
I...I believe in love"
- Bono

AMEN on the Music!
It was a sad day when I heard "Beds are Burning" by Midnight Oil, which in my experienced, marked the beginning of the hand-wringing phase of music.

I use a Mac laptop computer and Safari. I skimmed over your previous post.

That stuff sent back to the ACLU is hilarious! The personal note added just the right touch.
