A Wonderful Discussion About Faith

If you're a Christian, or even someone who's interested in Christianity, be sure and check out a really good thread that's going on right now at the Hidden Blog.

The Unseen Blogger asked us the following question:

What would it take for Christians to attain unity? Is Christian unity possible?

The discussion that's followed has been really solid stuff, in spite of the usual, rambling, meandering entries from yours truly.

Anyway, click here and check it out, and please jump in with your own opinions... I really like hearing with people have to say about this. It's a really good thread, don't miss it.

Comments:
Darrell, I don't know how you can have this kind of discussion only about Christians. The unity of Christians surely isn't what God, who made us all, is calling for when He suggests we are one. Nor should it be an end in itself. I happen to be a Christian, but I think an all-loving God doesn't mean an all-Christian-loving-God. And if it does, then what I am isn't a Christian I guess.

Lorna, I don't think the point is to imply that God loves only Christians, but rather to discuss the divisions within Christianity itself.

Maybe that was the point, but personally, I find the discussion of that division in the present day too introspective. A non-inclusive discussion seems unrelated to real-world conditions.

a house divided against itself cannot stand.
they bicker over theories and forget the game. I read it all but honestly i'm almost sorry to say it reawoke my bitterness to such people.

Yeah, I can see that. The conversation has taken a turn toward bickering, and I've been as bad about it as anyone. I think that the problems in Christianity are often caused by two kinds of people: Those who say "I know what is best," and those who accuse others of thinking that they know what is best.

I have to say that I agree with Lorna here. The thing that I found most disappointing is those who said that Unity was impossible. The God in whom I believe makes all things possible -- if we'll simply get our big fat EGOS out of the way! (myself included there)

Of course, I also believe that Christianity is but one piece of the truth and that to understand God, we must understand all of his teachings and honor all of his prophets... but I'm weird that way. ;o)
