Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle
Fans of Kurt Vonnegut (such as Wendy and me) will be interested to know that one of his best books,
Cat's Cradle, may be
headed to the screen:
The dark, obtuse satirical stylings of legendary author Kurt Vonnegut have resisted easy translation to the big screen (check out Alan Rudolph’s 1999 version of Breakfast Of Champions, with Bruce Willis, if you want proof). But that hasn’t deterred Leonardo DiCaprio, whose production company, Appian Way, has purchased the development rights to Vonnegut’s classic novel, Cat’s Cradle.
The article is right, decent film adaptations of Vonnegut's work are few and far between. In fact, only one adaptation so far has actually been good. Check out
Mother Night next time you're looking for a quirky, smart, dark comedy.
Avoid
Breakfast of Champions and
Slapstick like the plague.
