  A "Name That Movie" Bonus

Here's a tricky one, furnished to us by a reader...

Name The Movie
And The Blogger

That's right, this is a still from a major studio pic... and smack dab (or, as the French say, Smaque Daube) in the middle of the still is a blogger you all know and love. Most of our regulars do, anyway.

He's not the guy to the far right who kinda looks like a young James Cromwell. And, he's not the smiling guy to the left who looks... well, he just kinda looks creepy. We're talking about the mustachioed fella right in the middle, in the second row.

Can you name the movie?

Can you name the blogger?

Have fun.

Comments:
Is the blogger Rhodester?

Gosh, I dunno- but the guy on the left front in the dark hat is a character actor named Peter Jason

Lorna: Is the blogger Rhodester?

Gosh, come on! It's gotta go longer than one guess! :)

Let's throw some other ideas out there...

The blogger is MCF, maybe? Or maybe it's Wendy.

Good call, Lorna.

The movie is SEABISCUIT, a movie that got strong reviews but that we haven't seen yet because Wendy can't bring herself to watch that racehorse movie, in spite of the fact that it has a strong cast... including our buddy the blogger, and Toby Maguire as the jockey, Chris Cooper as (I think) the trainer, and Emma Thompson in the title role.

Emma Thompson? uh, nope. Chris Cooper IS the trainer and Jeff Bridges is the owner. Tobey of course is the Jockey. Jeff's character's wife in the film (Mrs. Howard) is played by a little known but wonderful actress named Elizabeth Banks.

Wendy, I don't care for boxing but I LOVED "Million Dollar Baby", because it's more about human drama than the sport. Same with "Field of Dreams" and so on.

Seabiscuit is not just about horse racing, it's about character, spirit and heart. It's really very moving, so let me know what you think after you give in and finally see it, huh? :-)

Keep in mind that it's a historical epic, and the events depicted really took place. It's rewritten for Hollywood of course, but for a more accurate account you could always read Laura Hillenbrand's book which the screenplay is based on. It's an amazing read and it's also quite moving.

Dave-

Darrell thinks Emma Thompson looks like a horse. That is why he said what he did. I disagree with him though. I think she is beautiful.

As for Million Dollar Baby, I wish that I could say that I loved that movie, but I didn't. It was pretty good, but I didn't like the ending. I think that by the time I saw it, I had really read and heard so much praise about it that it was hard for me to enjoy it as much as if I had gone into it blind. I do think that Hillary Swank and the rest of the cast were wonderful in their roles. Hillary Swank has come a long way since The Next Karate Kid.

I just want to say, for the record, that I think Emma Thompson is very attractive, with strong, healthy teeth and a lovely coat. Excellent breeding stock. And, to my knowledge, she’s never pooped in the road during a parade.

By the way, the director of Seabiscuit, Gary Ross, is working on a film with the most unconventional name I've ever heard of. Frankly, I think it's a box office killer.

I love the movie Sea Biscuit.
I would NEVER have guessed that pic.

ROFL

If I was home today I would have known this, not from seeing Seabiscuit since I haven't yet, but from remembering Dave's post on his old film blog.

MCF has not seen Seabiscuit?

**hangs head and gently sobs**

Gary Ross is a heck of a guy, Darrell- I have a feeling that's just a working title, but of course you KNEW that, you silly ninny. And I rather tend to think that it's the other way around- horses resemble Emma Thompson.

Ooh, ooh, I've seen Seabiscuit and would've known from that still! Gosh, I finally know one and I get here too late.

Anyway, it was a very good movie, but I agree with you, Wendy. I get very tired of seeing the inspirational sports movie du jour. I only enjoyed this one because I hadn't seen one in a long time.
