  Wendy's Heavy Rotation

I know that this is a film blog, but for the past few months I have been very jealous of the fact that Darrell has his heavy rotation list up at his blog. So, I decided to go on and make my own list. The albums are listed on the left of the page with a clickable link to Amazon. However, I did want to write a bit about each one and just say why I love it. I am not going to write a lot about each album, but I did want to say a line or two.

Del Amitri "Change Everything
I know that averagejoe thinks that Marillion is the best Scottish band, but he is wrong. Del Amitri is the best Scottish band, and this is their best album, and one of my all time favorite albums.

Barenaked Ladies "Gordon"
I am a pre-"Stunt" BNL fan, and pround of it. "Gordon" is a fun pop album. "Box Set" is probably my favorite BNL song.

Lyle Lovett "The Road To Ensenada"
I am a huge Lyle Lovett fan. I have seen him in concert three times. He is just amazing. It is hard to pick a favorite Lyle album, but this one is near and dear to me. Also my senior yearbook quote is from "Private Conversation."

Glen Phillips "Abulum"
The only downside to this album is that not enough people have heard it.

Sting "Mercury Falling"
This is really the only Sting album I like, and I absolutely love it. "I Hung My Head" and "Lithium Sunset" are my favorite tracks, and I made sure that both of them made it onto the Wedding Mix CD that we handed out at our wedding.

Jimmy Eat World "Bleed American"
This album is just too good. It has no right to be this good. I have listened to it thousands of times, and I still love it each time.

Dashboard Confessional "A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar"
I love Dashboard Confessional, and I am not ashamed. Darrell hates them with a passion, and that is fine too. It was hard for me to narrow it down to one album to put on this list. I decided on "A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar" because it is so radically different from their other albums. It is a lot more grown up. I love it, but it did take me a while to love it.

Morrissey "Viva Hate"
Laugh all you want, but Morrissey still speaks to me even at the ripe old age of 26. I still feel teen angst, I guess. When I was younger I used to go through my Morrissey and The Smiths albums and highlight the song lyrics that "spoke" to me. I guess I still get comfort from them, because "Ordinary Boys" still makes me teary.

Jimmy Eat World "Futures"
Darn them for making another album good enough to put on my list. "Futures" is awesome though.

The Word "The Word"
The Word is made up of John Medeski (Medeski, Martin and Wood), The North Mississippi All Stars, and Robert Randolph. Robert Randolph is the most amazing pedal steel player I have ever heard. And he's younger than me. "The Word" is an album of instrumental spiritual songs unlike anything I have ever heard before. I actually wrote a descriptive paper on this album for an English class once, and had my teacher ready to run out and buy the album. It's that good!

Moxy Fruvous "Bargainville"
I love Canadians! I think these guys are great. They are funny, and they have some really amazing vocal harmonies especially on tracks like "Gulf War Song."

Garden State Soundtrack
I don't know if I have ever heard a better soundtrack.

Tori Amos "Little Earthquakes"
Tori has gotten a little nutty over the years, but her nuttiness can't take away the fact that this album is amazing. It's a shame that she decided she needed to cover Slayer songs instead.

God Street Wine "Bag"
God Street Wine is my favorite band. Too bad they broke up a few years ago. I have seen them in concert a whole bunch of times, more than any other band. I miss them dearly.

Great Big Sea "Rant and Roar"
Gotta love these Canadians! Great Big Sea is from Newfoundland, and their music has a very Celtic feel to it. Their video for the song "When I'm Up" is based on The Hudsucker Proxy, so that is always a good thing.

Robbie Williams "The Ego Has Landed"
I love Robbie Williams' music, but even more than that do I love his personality. Watching him in an interview is always entertaining. This album is one of the few occasions where I owned both the cassette and the CD. However, my ex-husband took the CD so I have to replace it soon. I am getting tired of listening to the worn out cassette.

The Smithereens "A Date With The Smithereens"
I can't explain why I love this album, but I do.

Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals "Live From Mars"
Ben Harper has one of the best voices in music today. His cover of "Sexual Healing" is so darn good. Ben Harper rules.

Comments:
Actually, Marillion is English (their first lead-singer is Scottish, though)...and they are the best band in the world! :-)
