Meet Chester
Update: Two new pics and streamable video at bottom
For some time now, Wendy and I have wanted to get another dog. Tilda, our Brittany, is extremely lonely, for one thing. For another thing, we just love dogs. We were looking for something known for being very social and good with kids, as well as good with other dogs, smart, and ready to learn. We considered a number of breeds and possibilities, and, of course there were a number of "ideal" choices that were just far to expensive.
This week, we received word of a Basset Hound breeder with some puppies that were ready to go to new homes. We heard that the price he was asking was very low, and we were sure it was too good to be true. Surely the price we heard was wrong, or the breeder wasn't reputable, or something else was questionable.
We placed some calls and found out that the "too good to be true" deal was, in fact, true. We decided to go ahead and get a puppy, with the condition that he was going to be Wendy's and my Christmas gift to one and other this year.
Having said all that, meet Chester.
Update: Thursday morning
This is pitiful... we realize that nobody in the free world cares this much about our new puppy but us... but we can't help posting this stuff.
Boy, is he stubborn! We took him outside to do his business this morning, and he just flat out refused. He looked like he needed to go (puppy owners, you know what we mean) but he just wanted to sit at our feet and cry if we walked away from him.
We wanted to get some video of him this morning, but the battery in the video camera was dead and needed recharging (my bad). So, instead, we took a few more digital pics. Since our camera can record really raw movie files, too, I went ahead and did a quick, short rough video of Chester, also.

Our Basset Hound puppy is tiny, just barely old enough to leave his mama. We hardly know him yet, we've only had him since this afternoon... but, rest assured, you'll be seeing more of and hearing more about Chester from both of us.

There's a concrete pad in our back yard. There must have been a storage building here at one time. We use it as a poor-man's patio and the kids play on it. Click this button to stream about a 20 second video of Chester walking across the pad and crying like his best friend died. We know, reeeeeallllly exciting stuff.

Darrell,
When you said;
"We were looking for something known for being very social and good with kids, as well as good with other dogs, smart, and ready to learn."
My immediate thought was BEAGLE! You made the next best choice.
Chester is a great looking pup, and I hope he turns out to be the great dog we both know those two breeds can be.
That is the cutest puppy I have ever seen!
